The Bounce-Back Factor: Overcoming Obstacles to Achieve Success
Dr. Jermaine Davis

Adversity is a fact of life. Why do some people thrive and others shut down in the midst of adversity? How youth, youth workers, and organizations respond to these challenges will determine if they fail or succeed? In this thought-provoking and interactive presentation, Dr. Jermaine Davis will explore the topic of resilience by providing youth workers with practical tips on how to mentally, emotionally, and physically Bounce-Back in the face of adversity. The Bounce-Back Factor will teach you how-to effectively adopt, adapt, and adjust to the uncertainties of change in life, school, and work. Get ready to learn and laugh as you prepare to overcome obstacles to achieve success.

This engaging and interactive keynote will teach participants how to:

  • Navigate obstacles and challenges using the 5-Responses of Change
  • Respond effectively to adversity using the Practice of Facilitative Emotions
  • Develop a Growth Mindset using the C + R = Success or Failure Formula
  • Maintain personal clarity and direction using the P.V.G. Theory
  • Transition from pessimistic to optimistic thinking using the Power of Gratitude Journaling when confronted with hardships in life, school or work

Stress Management and Resiliency Training (SMART)
Kami Norland

Life is not about what happens to you. It’s about how you chose to respond. Learn about the neuroscience, philosophy and psychology of stress and wellbeing based on the research and coursework of the Mayo Clinic’s Dr. Amit Sood, Global Center for Resiliency and Wellbeing. This course shares cutting-edge research on how to train awareness of the brain’s default mode, identify the three main sources of stress and take action towards greater compassion and gratitude.

Participants will:

  • Explore the reasons behind the mind’s restlessness and irrationality
  • Discover greater novelty, meaning and sustained focus that enhances gratitude, compassion and the ability to bounce back quickly from adversities
  • Reduce everyday anxiety and find greater fulfillment in life

This training is presented in a format this is simple, participatory and fun. Application of these skills is pertinent for both personal and professional settings.
SMART has been tested in over ten completed research studies at the Mayo Clinic and elsewhere, with the results indicating improvement in stress, anxiety, resilience, mindfulness, productivity, happiness and positive health behaviors.
